Happy Friday!
Today is the start of the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo. I love this time of the year, the carnival, cookout, zydeco, and the delicious barbecue. Hopefully, I will see you guys out and about. If you see me, don’t hesitate to hello.
So without further due, let’s get started on the boss of the week.
Feature Boss Friday segment was just an idea I had my mind, and wasn't sure how I was going to manifest it. Boy oh boy look how far has it gotten. Only 2 months in and I'm receiving so much feedback. I realize people like to read and listen to empowerment stories. I feel that I've created a great platform. Thank you everyone for reading.
I was speaking with my co-worker about my segments and she was like you need to email Melody Holt and see if she will respond. Then shen goes on to tell me, that she watches her show on the OWN network. Me, not being familiar with TV much, watched the show and then decided to email Mrs. Holt. She responded immediately, and I was very impressed.
1. What's the name of your business and how long have you been established?
We are named Holt & Holt Entrepreneurship and we've been in operation for 10 years.
2. How did you get started?
We got started out of necessity as a way to supplement our income as educators. We literally took equipment we already owned, made flyers on the computer, and set out house to house, in different neighborhoods, offering our services.
3. What was that one moment in your life when you decided to become a boss?
There was no exact moment. I think anyone becomes a boss through consistent hard work and a passion for success. But, you can't just want, hope, or dream of success, you do actually have to work for it.
4. With so much competition out there, what keeps your brand unique?
We keep our brand unique by not thinking or worrying about what anyone else is doing. We do what feels right and what comes naturally. You run the risk of diluting your brand when you worry too much about competition. You can’t mind your own business and watch the competition at the same time.
5. What advice would you give to a person that's trying to become a boss?
I would tell any person who is trying to become a boss to stop trying and just do! People overthink and fail to take action. Commit yourself to taking one small step each day if that's what you need to get started. Build the website. Make the phone call. Attend the event. Buy the equipment. Bosses do think, but they are definitely all about action. Start taking action.
Thank you so much Mrs. Holt for taking the time out to answer our questions. I know you are a busy woman.
